LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES
June 15, 2006; 7:06 p.m.; Lincoln Park Pavilion
The meeting was called to order by the president, Brenda Dwiggins, who welcomed those present and introduced the speaker, Robin Miller. Robin has been a member of the Kennekuk Roadrunners for 20 years. 13 years ago, he started the Kennekuk Kids running program. There are now approximately 300 children under 18 years of age participating in the program, which meets Monday evenings at Lincoln Park. The children run a marked pathway throughout the park, with different categories and distances for the various age groups. The program is open to all children.
The minutes of the May 18, 2006 meeting were approved as presented.
Treasurer Ellen Vanesse reported a balance of $1539.44 on 6/13/06. The LPHDNA was the winner of the $100 lottery award from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful.
Old Business:
>Directories have been presented to new residents in the District.
>Discussion of when to distribute the Newsletter/Minutes/Meeting Notice resulted in a decision to have them delivered to the Block Captains by the Friday before the meeting, with distribution ideally no later than the Monday before the meeting on Thursday.
>Dorothy Puhr volunteered to be Block Captain for the 1200 block of Sheridan. There is still an opening for the 900 block of Grant.
>Brenda showed us samples of the note cards we ordered as our fund raising project. They will be ready June 16. They will sell for $12.00 for 10 at the Vermilion Co. Museum gift shop. We will be selling them at the Lamon House during Arts in the Park--members were urged to sign up for a 2 hour shift.
>There has been good publicity in the paper about our programs and projects, and the Danville website has information as well.
>The banner fund is growing, and the Association will pay for their installation. There will be three banners mounted on the utility poles on each side of the park.
>Rocky Hill volunteered to be an alternate member of the Historic Preservation Committee for the city.
New Business:
>Copies of our newsletter are being sent to the Mayor, our Aldermen and John Dreher.
>The Rabbittown Homeowners Association wants to install banners in their location, too. Brenda will look into the possible economies of combining orders with them and other neighborhood associations.
>Fundraisers were discussed. It was stated that we should have city approval for selling any concessions in the park. Selling tee shirts and caps and a district-wide rummage sale were previously suggested. Christmas in the Park was another suggestion, charging a fee to view a decorated venue in the park.
>The next clean up will be July 15, 9:00 a.m. at the north park entrance.
>Joyce Melton urged Association members to nominate LPHD residents' gardens for the Danville Garden Club's "Make it Bloom" competition.
>Dona Farnsworth won the 50-50 drawing and donated it to the banner fund.
> New residents Paul and Bobbie Jo Burr and their family, 1111Sherman, were welcomed to the association. Updates to our directory will appear in our upcoming newsletters.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
Next meeting: July 20, 7:00 p.m., Lincoln Park Pavilion
