MINUTES OF THE LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT

NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING

JUNE 16, 2005

Brenda Dwiggins, President, called the June 16, 2005 LPHDNA Meeting to order at 7:00 PM at the Lincoln Park Pavilion. A potluck took place at 6:30 PM. Approximately 23 people attended. Joyce Melton read the Minutes from the May 12, 2005 meeting for Nancy Bates, Secretary, which were approved. Susan Smalley, Treasurer, gave the Financial Report. She stated that the Association has a balance of $360.46 after sending flowers to Vice Mayor/Alderman Mike Puhr for the loss of a family member. Rhea Ann Weatherford, past President, was thanked and a card to her was circulated for members to sign. A Get Well card was also circulated for Vic Vanesse.

Brenda introduced Jane Li, from Prairie Rivers Network. This statewide program is asking neighborhood associations to help enforce the "Clean Water Act." Jane has worked with Peer Court, Keep Danville Beautiful and Outfitters in Danville. She asked our Association for help in stenciling a warning "No Dumping - Drains to River" on the storm drains within the Historic District. Kits will be provided and it is estimated the painting will take two hours. Approximately 20 volunteers are needed from the neighborhood. It is necessary that this project be completed in one day. City officials have already given approval. A date will be set in the near future.

OLD BUSINESS

Block Captains are still needed for several blocks. Those already signed up as Block Captains will meet soon.

NEW BUSINESS

It was decided that a neighborhood directory would be useful for members to have. Block Captains will help gather the information. Brenda is creating an album of articles pertaining to our area.

John Dreher, Community Development Manager, is updating the Historic Survey Summary to include the homes on the west side of Logan Avenue up to Voorhees Street. (In June 2004, the majority of residents living in this section voted "yes" to be included in the Historic District.) He requested these homeowners give him any available information on the history of their home. More information will follow. These homes will be added to the Historic Survey Summary that was created in 1995 (kept by the LPHDNA president). The current Historic Survey Summary, which is very interesting and most informative, is brought to every meeting for all to read. Mr. Dreher also stated that his office would print the July newsletter for us.

It was decided to have future meetings on the THIRD Thursday of each month (April through September only) at the Lincoln Park Pavilion with a potluck beginning at 6:30 PM; meeting at 7:00 PM. The meetings will be held as close to an hour as possible. The remaining meeting dates for 2005 are July 21, August 18 and September 14.

Lincoln Park Clean-Up Day is Saturday, July 16th, 2005, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. All volunteers are to meet at Joyce and Harold Melton's home at 1103 Sherman, near the north end of the park. There are signs posted in the park that state that our Association is responsible for helping to keep the park clean.

Fundraising ideas, such as a neighborhood rummage sale and/or bake sale were discussed. It was also suggested inviting other neighborhood groups to meet with us to exchange ideas.

It has been suggested that our Association help develop a flowerbed at the south side of the park. Steve Lane, Park Superintendent, will help get this started after more pressing projects are completed.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
