LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING
JULY 16, 2009--FRIENDLY TOWN CLASSROOM; LINCOLN PARK
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by the president, Brenda Dwiggins, who welcomed the attendees and introduced the speaker, Kevin Jett, Community Partnership Specialist for the U.S. Government, who outlined his duties in regard to the Census in 2010. He is responsible for 14 counties in Illinois. He outlined the timetable and procedures for the census, stressing the importance of accuracy and compliance, and explained how the data collected affects many facets of government, from elections to Federal funding. Attendees were encouraged to apply for positions and to participate in various ways.
The reading of the minutes of the June 18 meeting was dispensed with because they were printed in the newsletter.
Treasurer Ellen Vanesse reported a bank balance of $1159.41. The report was approved as presented.
OLD BUSINESS:
>Brenda expressed appreciation for the news coverage of the upcoming LPHD House and Garden Walk by both the Commercial-News and the News-Gazette. There will be a meeting of the committee and participants for the Walk following the business meeting.
>The Property Improvement of the Month sign will be awarded to the Grant St. house being refurbished by the youth through the Center for Children's Services.
NEW BUSINESS:
>Park clean up will be Saturday, July 25, 9:00 a.m., English Street entrance.
>This Friday, Saturday and Sunday night "Alice in Wonderland" will be presented by the Lincoln Park Theatre Company free of charge. (Donations are welcome!)
>The "Café on the Lawn" at the Center for Children's Services will be open on Friday evenings during their season. Live music may be available.
>The derelict house at 1114 Grant was discussed.
ALDERMEN'S REPORT:
Mike Puhr and Jerry Askren both commented on the success of the new garbage and waste collection system, and pointed out that the collection schedule may change because of the efficiencies of the new system. They also predicted that costs would rise and would be passed on to residents. They listed some of the other pick-up services the solid waste department provides, and stressed the correct placement of the waste containers for the automated pick-up trucks as well as what is allowed to be placed inside of them. Violators can be videoed by the operator of the truck to aid in enforcement of regulations.
Cathy Johnson won the 50-50 drawing, and donated the $22 to the LPHDHA.
