LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING

THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2007; 7:00 PM

The meeting was called to order by the president, Brenda Dwiggins, who welcomed the attendees and guests.

Ward 4 Alderwoman Nancy O'Kane urged LPHDNA members to participate in the next Citizens Police Academy, which will be held on Thursday evenings from August 30 to October 13 from 6-9 p.m. The purpose of the Academy is to better inform the citizens of Danville about the workings and functions of the police department, including "shadowing" police personnel on their patrols.

Brenda introduced the speaker for the meeting, John Dreher, Neighborhood Development Manager for the city of Danville, who stressed the importance of neighborhood associations in monitoring conditions in their neighborhoods and aiding in the identification of code violations. He described the Grant Street project (which will be in our Historic District), where four houses have been identified to be "turned around" by addressing and rehabilitating their code violations using grant money and local contractors. The aim of the project is to stabilize the valuation of areas by remedying declining houses before they affect the surrounding neighborhood. The grants can also be used to address accessibility issues for occupants.

The minutes of the June meeting were approved as published in the newsletter.

The treasurer, Ellen Vanesse, reported a balance of $1,103.70.

Old business:

Alderman Mike Puhr reported that the city police will address the speeding problem in the district with radar monitoring. He also believes that the rental registration program will be enacted and go forward as a means of legally addressing derelict housing conditions in the city.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
