LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES
July 20, 2006; 7:00 p.m.; Lincoln Park Performing Arts Stage
The meeting was called to order by the president, Brenda Dwiggins. The minutes were approved as presented in the Newsletter. Treasurer Pro Tem, Vic Vanesse, reported that the treasury had a balance of $1810.44, and that Lester Shafland had made a donation to the Association in memory of his wife, Melvine.
Directory update: death of Janice Smith in the 1200 block of Sherman.
Old business:
>Brenda reported $548 in sales of the LPHD note cards so far.
>The banners for the park would be less costly if our association combines with other associations in ordering them. Brenda will see if other associations are interested in ordering banners.
>"Christmas in the Park" was discussed. Such a project would need a major commitment from volunteers, but is worth considering as a future project.
>The Historic Preservation Commission still needs a volunteer attorney.
>The Historic District yard sale will be Saturday, July 22, starting at 8:00 a.m.
>Brenda reported on her research about LPHDHA being able to sell concessions at park events. Only bottled beverages and pre-sealed food packages would be allowed.
New business:
>Park clean up will be 9:00a.m. August 19.
>The 1100 block of Sherman won the Danville Garden Club "Make It Bloom" block contest.
>Potential speakers for district meetings were proposed.
Comments from our aldermen, Jerry Askren and Mike Puhr:
>The city is beginning to change traffic signs in the downtown area where the one-way streets are going to revert to two-way.
>The city is seeking input on the smoking ban for bars and restaurants and other public buildings. People can have input on its website, cityofdanville.org.
>The negative impact of the federal Section 8 housing program on our community was discussed. Since this is a federal program, local cities cannot control how many vouchers are used in their communities.
>The L.P. pavilion will be closed for repairs until next spring. The lights on the entrance pillars are beyond repair. Solar powered lights might be an option.
>Problems with the alleys in the district were discussed. Some of the brick alleys have become very uneven.
>Derelict houses were also discussed. Enforcement is always a problem, and very time consuming.
>The proposed garbage plan for the city was discussed.
>No update was available on the bicycle path.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
