LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

Minutes of the meeting held July 21, 2005; 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Park Pavilion.

President Brenda Dwiggins welcomed those present and introduced the two guest speakers for the meeting.  Margie Jordan, an alumnus of the Danville Citizens Police Academy, gave an overview of the program, which focuses on familiarizing the citizens of Danville with the various services and functions carried out by the police department.  Jerry Wright, Neighborhood Services Coordinator for the City, told about the services and enforcement areas under his jurisdiction, and the importance of "Community Policing" in maintaining viable neighborhoods.  Many homeowners raised questions about dealing with abandoned or dilapidated property and contacting absentee landlords.

The minutes, written by Joyce Melton for Nancy Bates, were approved as presented.

The Treasurer's report stated that the balance was unchanged at about $350.

Old Business:

>The Lincoln Park Clean-up day on July 16 had about a dozen participants, and volunteers reported that the park was in pretty good condition.

>Brenda reported on the Block Captains' meeting, which had a good turnout and discussed several issues and planning items.  Captains are still needed for some blocks.

>The Neighborhood Directory was discussed.  Block Captains will gather the data, and the City will do the copying.  Contributions and ads will be encouraged, but the directories will be free to residents of the District (one per household).  There are about 180 homes in the District, and landlords will be listed for rental houses, if possible.

>The STORM DRAIN STENCILING PROJECT with the Prairie Rivers Network from Champaign will be done on Saturday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m., with a rain date of Sept. 10.  There are 40 drains to be stenciled, so volunteers are needed.  Peer Court will be asked for help, if needed.

>New lights for the park have been ordered and should be installed soon.

>The District website, which is in need of updating, is: www.lincolnparkhistoricdistrict.org.

>A neighborhood rummage sale/bake sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the District, was discussed for September at the Pavilion.  Brenda will check on available dates.

>Flowers for the south entrance to the park will be planted in the fall.

>Brenda is preparing a neighborhood news album.

New Business:

>Joyce Melton will contact the owners of the home on the SE corner of Voorhees & Logan about annexing that area to the District.

>The next District clean-up date will be August 20, 9:00 a.m.

The sudden onset of a severe storm preempted the remainder of the meeting, which was hastily adjourned.  Next meeting: Thursday, August 18; Lincoln Park Pavilion
