LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING

August 20, 2009--Friendly Town Classroom, Lincoln Park

The meeting was called to order at 7:p.m. by President Brenda Dwiggins, who welcomed the attendees and introduced the speaker, Rick Todd, Project Manager for the Center for Children's Services. Rick gave a brief history of the Center, which began one hundred eleven years ago as the Vermilion County Children's Home. He described the various projects, such as Cafe on the Lawn and rehabilitation of houses, which are designed to teach the students work and business skills. The work skills program was judged the best youth program in the state of Illinois in 2006. Presently there are several ongoing projects that involve the youth getting hands on experience in rehabbing houses. A tour of the Grant Street project followed.

OLD BUSINESS

Treasurer Ellen Vanesse reported a balance of $2, 674.00. The Association's share from the House and Garden Walk was $1,269.60 plus an additional $200.00 was made on the lemonade stand and raffle for the lily donated by Five Acre Lily Farm.

Brenda attended a meeting of the Complete Count Committee for the 2010 Census. It is very important to be counted as the tax dollars for the city depends on the Census count. Volunteers will be needed later to ensure that each household returns the Census forms. A motion was approved that our Association will partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to help with the count.

The Property Home Improvement sign was awarded to John and Carolyn Smith at 1105 Grant.

The fall yard sale will be held Oct. 3, 8 a.m. to 1p.m. Cathy Johnson will put the ad in the paper and Susan Barnes will be the contact person for names and addresses of participants and will make a flyer with the names of those participating.

NEW BUSINESS

The Danville Area Transportation Study, the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Danville urbanized area is writing a bicycle plan for the year and surveys were passed out which ask for community input in order to make future plans for the bicycle transportation system.

Alderman Mike Puhr answered questions regarding the city's plan for recycling. He passed out a flyer for the "Fetch" group, which hopes to create a doggy park within the new Espenshied Park.

Ed Dwiggins won the 50/50 drawing and donated the money to the organization.
