LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING

AUGUST 21, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the president, Brenda Dwiggins, who welcomed the attendees and introduced the speaker, Dana Schaumburg, the Executive Director of Downtown Danville, Inc. who spoke about the geographic boundaries, responsibilities, and goals of the organization as well as its sources of funding. She highlighted some past programs and welcomes any and all new ideas for drawing attention to, more uses of, and functions for, the downtown area.

The reading of the July minutes was dispensed with since they were printed in the newsletter.

Treasurer Ellen Vanesse reported a balance of $1269.20, with a $20 contribution from the District rummage sale and $6.00 from Ellen paying for the rummage sale ad.

OLD BUSINESS:

>The "Improvement of the Month" sign will go to the (FINALLY!) empty lot at 1218 Sherman, where the city finally demolished the derelict house and filled in the ground.

>Brenda asked for volunteers for next summer's Garden Walk.

>Bike path update: The grant request has been submitted to IDOT.

>The Community Development Grants for upgrades to homes will be for 1015, 1106 and 1119 Grant St.

>The awards for the "Make it Bloom" contest will be announced on August 23rd.

>Park cleanup will be Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

>There was an extensive discussion with Alderman Puhr about the condition and maintenance of the alleys in the district, with numerous complaints about specific locations, as well as requests for guidelines from the city about who was responsible for what.

NEW BUSINESS:

>Brenda reminded homeowners to make sure they obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness from the City before making any exterior changes to their homes. Contact Rodney Beckham, 431-2331, for details.

>More stringent enforcement of the city's leash law is underway.

>Brenda asked for volunteers to put up the meeting notice signs the week of the meetings.

>The speaker for the September meeting will be State Rep. Bill Black.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.
