LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES

September 21, 2006; 7:00 p.m.; Lincoln Park Performing Arts Stage

President Brenda Dwiggins called the meeting to order and introduced our guest, Robert Yapp, the newly appointed Executive Director of Renaissance Danville.  Mr. Yapp stressed the positive effect on property values of living in a Historic District as well as stressing the importance of the rehabilitation of housing rather than covering siding with other materials and replacing windows, doors, etc.  He will be active in training persons interested in housing rehabilitation to work on community projects as well as their own properties.

The minutes from the August meeting were approved as presented in the newsletter; the report of the treasurer given by Vic Vanesse showed a balance on 9/12/06 of $2264.49.

Announcements:

>Directory update: Mark Bart in the 1200 block of Sherman.

>The fall park banners have just been put up.  The 8 winter banners have been ordered by the LPHDNA.  They will be coordinated with the Lincoln banners from Danville Township. The District will pay the set-up costs for our banners.

>The LPHDNA "Leaf a Legacy" tree has been ordered.

>Park cleanup will be Saturday, Sept. 23, at 9:00 a.m.

>A Civil War enactment will take place over the weekend at Kennekuk County Park.

New Business:

>The Genealogical Society has given the District a historic picture of the sunken gardens that were once a part of the park.  Harold Melton moved that we donate $25 to the society as a thank you gift.  The motion was seconded and passed.

> "Livable City" workshops are being presented on October 5, 19, and 26 from 9 a.m. to mid-afternoon.  The cost is $20 per session, or $50 for all three.  LPHDHA will pay for an attendee for each of the workshops; members should contact Brenda if interested.

>Nancy Bates stressed the great need for tutors willing to spend an hour a week helping a Garfield Elementary School student with basic schoolwork at all levels.  Call the principal, Mrs. Garner (444-1750) to see what would fit into your schedule.  NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

>Signs commending homeowners for doing something to enhance their property were discussed.

Remarks by Alderman Mike Puhr:

>The automated garbage system has been approved by the city and will be phased in, starting with yard waste.  More recycling sites will be made available as well.

>There will be another hearing on the proposed smoking ban.

Mike Puhr won the 50-50, which he donated to the LPHDHA.

The next meeting will be April 15, 2007, at Lincoln Park.  Meanwhile, members are urged to help keep the park free of litter by doing cleanup walks on their own over the intervening months.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Nancy Bates, Secretary
