FIRST LPHDNA MONTHLY MEETING
APRIL 17, 2008
Hello everyone!
Think Spring! April is here and it's time for spending more time outside, enjoying trees and flowers coming to life, maybe a little spring cleaning and, oh yes, our first 2008 neighborhood meeting! Please attend on Thursday, April 17th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town.
The featured speaker will be Sue Richter, Director of the Vermilion County Museum. Sue will talk about the upcoming Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration along with the possibility of a 2009 Garden Walk.
New officers will be elected in May. Nominations are welcome for ALL positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board of Directors. The assistance from Block Captains is vital. There can be more than one per block. Please consider volunteering your time and talents for the betterment of our community. We need more people participating with new ideas.
Lincoln Park Clean-Up Day is Saturday, April 26th, 9:00 am. We'll meet at the north entrance to the park. It only takes a little time to make a BIG difference! YOUR help is needed and appreciated in keeping our community one that we are proud of. Maintaining Lincoln Park (and our own properties!) reflects positively not only on just our neighborhood but also on the entire city of Danville. By keeping the park clean, we could win the $100 lottery from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful again! Please read the "Commercial-News" editorial on the back of this page concerning pride in where you live. We all have this in common. Please do your part.
Speaking of Lincoln Park, there is a new roof (along with many other improvements) on the Pavilion and concession stand. The Parks Department and their contractors have worked on the Pavilion all winter. Great job! The Pavilion will reopen mid June.
Nancy and Keith Bates and I attended the Fifth Annual Neighborhood Workshop recently. More details at the meeting.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing the banners around Lincoln Park this winter. They were paid for by donations from neighbors. Thanks again everyone!
Is there anyone you'd like to hear speak or a particular topic you'd like addressed at our meetings? Don't hesitate to contact me by phone (431-0092), email (brenda.dwiggins@sbcglobal.net) or in person. Your suggestions are welcome.
A second LPHDNA "Leaf a Legacy" tree was planted last October on the east side of the park (first one was planted in 2006 is on the west side). Several neighbors have done the same. This is a wonderful way to replenish the trees in the park along with honoring a loved one or a special occasion. If you are also interested, please see "cityofdanville.org" for details.
Keep Vermilion County Beautiful is offering a grant program this year to community groups. Come with ideas!
When walking around the park, it is very noticeable that some people DO NOT clean up after their dogs. Not very considerate to those who visit the park and carry a little something extra into their car or house on the bottom of a shoe. It only takes a second to clean up your dog's "exhaust"!
Remember that neighbors contiguous to the Historic District are welcome to our meetings. If you know of a resident whose home borders our community and would like to participate in our activities, please bring them along!
As always, I hope this finds you doing well. I look forward to seeing all of you at each monthly meeting this season, beginning April 17th. The remaining 2008 meeting dates are May 15th, June 19th, July 17th, August 21st and September 18th. Please mark your calendars. Let's continue to work TOGETHER in keeping the Lincoln Park Historic District clean, safe and beautiful! Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Brenda Dwiggins President, LPHDNA
