LPHDNA APRIL 2010 NEWSLETTER

FIRST MEETING OF THE SEASON IS APRIL 15TH

Hi everyone!

Spring is finally here!! Isn't it refreshing to see children playing outside, more activity in the park, trees and flowers blooming and to be able to enjoy these nice sunny days! As you well know, spring also brings on the beginning of our Neighborhood Association meetings. Our first one is Thursday, April 15th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. We will be discussing goals and objectives for our Association. Please come to talk about creating measurable goals, pros and cons of our neighborhood, improvements needed, etc. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Census Day was April 1, 2010. I hope you've completed and returned your questionnaire. However, if not, as a friendly reminder, Census volunteers will visit households that have not returned the form. Questionnaire responses should represent the household as it currently exists. By law, the Census Bureau CANNOT share an individual's responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities. I am a member of the Complete Count Committee and have attended briefings concerning, among other things, the status of the Census count in Vermilion County. Please do your part by completing and returning the form. EVERYONE needs to be counted. The population count determines representation in the US House of Representatives and distribution of tax dollars.

The two electric lanterns for the north entrance to the park, purchased with the funds raised from the 2009 House and Garden Walk, will be installed this spring! Steve Lane, from the Parks Department, will contact me with that date. Also, our FOURTH Leaf-a-Legacy tree has been planted near the east entrance.

Unfortunately there have been recent reports of yard items stolen from some of our neighbors. When possible, secure what you can and leave outside lights on. Always report any theft or vandalism to the police by calling 911.

Park clean up is Saturday, April 24th, 9:00 am. Your help is especially needed this month since this is the first clean up of the season. It definitely needs our attention! Meet at the north entrance. Bags and picks are provided.

There will be door prizes given away on the 15th as well as the 50/50 raffle. It has been very thoughtful of those in the past who have won the 50/50 raffle to donate their winnings to the Association. However, if your number is drawn, YOU are entitled to it and should feel no obligation to give it back to the Association.

The scheduled meeting dates for 2010 are: April 15th, May 20th, June 17th, July 15th, August 19th and September 16th. Please mark your calendars. If you're interested in having a particular speaker, just let me know.

Thanks to all who have contributed to making our neighborhood cleaner, safer, a more beautiful place to live. I look forward to seeing you on April 15th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. PLEASE ATTEND - YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!

Best regards,

Brenda Dwiggins President, LPHDNA
