MAY 2006 NEWSLETTER
Hi Neighbors!
Thanks to everyone who attended our last meeting. It was a good one and we missed those of you who weren't
there. Hope you can make the next meeting on Thursday, May 18th, 7:00 pm, in the Pavilion. Special thanks go
to Steve Lane for being our guest speaker. Steve's expertise on parks and public property in Vermilion County
was quite evident. His talk was most enjoyable and very informative. One of the things he spoke about was "Leaf
a Legacy." If you are interested in sponsoring a tree being planted (at your choice of various locations) in your or
any name of your choosing, call Steve at 304-0847 or go to www.cityofdanville.orgfor more information. See the
minutes on the back of this page for more details about the meeting.
Our guest speaker for the upcoming meeting is Nancy Brain. Nancy is a Family Service Advisor with Sunset
Funeral Home. She will share some very important information with us concerning identify theft….. a subject
near and dear to all of us.
Elections of new officers will take place at the May meeting. All positions are open for nominations; however,
both Vice President and Treasurer are vacant. Please volunteer for one of these positions. More Block Captains
are needed also.
The Directories are finished!! If you haven't received yours yet, you will soon. My sincere thanks go to Joyce
and Harold Melton, Nancy and Keith Bates and Carol Olson for all of their help putting it together and to my
husband, Ed, for getting most all of the ads. We ended up with 56 businesses or individuals supporting our
Association; PLEASE SUPPORT THEM! Also, many many thanks go to Mayor Scott Eisenhauer and his staff at
City Hall for allowing us to use their equipment and conference room for copying and collating. Thank you all
VERY much! Please direct any comments, questions and/or corrections concerning the Directory to me at
431-0092 or by email at brenda.dwiggins@sbcglobal.net.
The request for a $500 grant from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful for four winter banners for Lincoln Park was
declined. This request fell outside their scope for this year. However, there is a possibility the eligibility may be
broadened in the future, at which time, the request will be resubmitted.
No word yet on whether or not the two applications given to HALO for the Paint Blitz on June 17th have been
approved.
The House and Garden Walk that was to take place in July has been canceled for this year. Some new ideas are
being discussed for next year.
Gerry Wright, Neighborhood Services Coordinator, who has done tremendous work around the city cleaning up
unsightly properties, (you may recall he has helped in our community) is leaving Danville with his wife, Teresa,
to live near their son and daughter-in-law in Texas, who are expecting their first child. Gerry wrote in his letter,
"I want to let you know the efforts of all of the neighborhood groups is essential to the preservation and protection
of our neighborhoods and you should all be commended for this noble effort." Thank you, Gerry, and we wish
you and your family all the best. Thank you for your many years of dedicated service to Danville, including your
30 years on the Police Force. You have made it a better place to live.
The park clean up has been rescheduled to SATURDAY, MAY 20th from May 13th. WE NEED YOU!!! Please
come and help keep the park clean. At most, it only takes an hour. Meet at 9:00 am at the north entrance.
Remember, by helping clean up the park this month, YOU are eligible to win a Troy-Bilt
Chipper-Shredder-Vacuum machine valued at $500.
Arts in the Park is being held at Lincoln Park on June 24th and 25th. Be sure and mark your calendars to attend.
As you well know, it is one of the most successful events in the city.
