LPHDNA MAY 2010 NEWSLETTER
Hi everyone!
The discussion at the April meeting concerning goals and objectives in the development of our Neighborhood Action Plan (NAP) brought to light many positive aspects of living in the Lincoln Park Historic District as well as issues that need to be addressed for improvement. Please come to the next meeting on Thursday, May 20th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town for further discussion on these and other topics. Your ideas are essential in achieving the ultimate goals. Our meetings are open to ALL residents of the Historic District. Let me remind you that this is a neighborhood association and NOT a homeowner's association. For further details of the April meeting, see the minutes on the back of this page.
The speaker this month will be Pat Hartshorn, Vermilion County Sheriff.
New officers will be elected at this meeting. Nominations are welcome for ALL positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Directors. The assistance from Block Captains is vital. There can be more than one per block. Please consider volunteering your time and talents.
Welcome to Archie (aka: "Bubba") and Nancy Quick, who are the new proprietors of "Bubba's Lincoln Park Concession Stand"! Several meals are offered in addition to popcorn, candy, snow cones and frozen treats. The stand is open seven days a week. Hours will vary slightly but mainly will be 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Let's give them our full support. Thanks to Bubba for encouraging children to keep the park clean by asking them to always throw paper wrappers, etc. in the trashcans. He has even gone so far as to offer free popsicles, as an incentive to children, for cleaning up the park. Thanks Bubba and much success to you and Nancy!
The two Coach lights for the north entrance to the park, purchased with the funds raised from the 2009 House and Garden Walk, will be installed in May.
I received a phone call from the post office saying that our newsletters and/or any other flyers CANNOT be placed in the mailboxes or WE WILL BE CHARGED POSTAGE. The Block Captains will leave all flyers under a corner of a door mat, inside a storm door or anchored down in some fashion on your porch.
The yard sale is set for Saturday, June 12; rain date June 19th. Susan Barnes is the coordinator. Please let her know if you'll be participating. She can be reached at 443-5466 or smbarnes2@comcast.net. Get those closets and garages cleaned out and have fun bringing in some cash!
Park clean up is Saturday, May 22nd, 9:00 am. Special thanks go to our neighbors who look after the landscaping at the north (Joyce Melton and Cathy Johnson) and south (owners of Timothy-Dann's Salon) entrances of the park. Also, thanks to Terry Meeker at 912 Sherman for keeping the grass mowed and trimmed at the south entrance and to everyone else who picks up trash while walking in and around the park. Great job everyone! So, how about the rest of you contributing a little bit of your time by helping to clean the park on Saturday, May 22nd. Meet at the north entrance. Bags and picks are provided.
It was fun giving away door prizes at the meeting! A free quart of Custard Cup ice cream, a 6" sub from Subway and a $20 gift certificate from Berry's Garden Center were given away. Melissa Kercheval won the 50-50 raffle and donated her winnings back to the Association. Thank you Melissa! These drawings will take place at each meeting
The "Making a Difference in the Neighborhood" sign was awarded to George and Margaret Scarlett at 1107 Logan Ave. Congratulations!! Your place always looks so nice!
This is just a friendly reminder to always clean up after your pets and use "the facilities" placed in the park to properly dispose of your dog's waste. Let's make the park a healthy place for everyone to enjoy.
The remaining scheduled meeting dates for 2010 are: May 20th, June 17th, July 15th, August 19th and September 16th. Please mark your calendars. If you're interested in having a particular speaker, just let me know.
Thanks to all who have contributed to making our neighborhood cleaner, safer, a more beautiful place to live. I look forward to seeing you on May 20th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. PLEASE ATTEND - YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
Best regards,
Brenda Dwiggins President, LPHDNA
