LPHDNA MEETING NOTICE

FOR

June 21, 2007

Hi everyone!

Many thanks to Maria Sermersheim who spoke at our last meeting. She coordinated and directs the Family Nutrition Program and gave a terrific presentation. She has touched the lives of so many adults and children through her care and concern for educating them about proper nutrition while making it a fun experience at the same time. (Minutes from the May meeting are on the back of this page.)

The speaker this month is Vicki Haugen, President and CEO of Vermilion Advantage. She will give an overview of the economic development in Danville and address all questions from the floor. Please bring a folding chair since seating is limited. The meeting is on Thursday, June 21st, 7:00 pm at Friendly Town. The "reminder" signs for the meeting will be placed around the neighborhood during the week of the meeting.

The same slate of officers who are now serving were elected for 2007-2008: Board of Directors are Dona Farnsworth and Rocky Hill; President Brenda Dwiggins; Vice President Joyce Melton; Secretary Nancy Bates; Treasurer Ellen Vanesse. No resignations were received from any Block Captains. Thank you, Dee Darnell and Cathy Johnson, for volunteering to help as Block Captains. I personally extend my appreciation to all who are volunteering their time. Thank you very much for your excellent support.

Our Second Annual Yard Sale was a real success! We had homes participating on Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, Center and Logan. Thanks for joining in on the fun! From what I hear, Sherman was the "hot spot"! There were six homes participating on that street alone. Between our ad in the Commercial News (thanks to Cathy Johnson), ads aired on radio stations Kiss Country 103.1 and Kool 92.9 (thanks to Larry and Rhea Ann Weatherford) and the new yard sale signs placed on four high-traffic streets, I think the advertising paid off! (We'll be able to use the signs from year to year.) From my own personal experience, we had a steady stream of people from 6:00 am through 1:30 pm. We had no intentions of turning away sales from those "early birds"! A special thank you to those of you who have donated a portion of your profit from the yard sale to the LPHDNA treasury. This is greatly appreciated.

Timothy of Timothy - Dann's Salon at 905 Sherman, planted additional flowers at the south entrance of the park. They are just beautiful! Thank you, Timothy, for showing such care and pride in your neighborhood.

We have an opportunity for a fundraiser of purchasing tee shirts (or caps) with our logo on them. Since this would involve a good deal of time for volunteers going door to door taking orders, collecting and making deliveries, I would like to know if there is enough interest to pursue this project. The shirts (or caps) would be a color suitable for male and female, adult and children and will be approximately $9 - $12. Pricing will be based on the number of items ordered. Payment would be required at the time the order is taken. The more ordered, the better the price. Please let me know by email at brenda.dwiggins@sbcglobal.net or telephone (431-0092) if you and/or your family are interested. This is terrific way to show pride in our neighborhood and make money at the same time! Please be sure and let me know as soon as possible if you're interested, so the next step can be taken.

The May park cleanup was rained out. Thanks to all who walk the park and pick up litter throughout the month. The June park cleanup will be on the 30th instead of the 23rd because of Arts in the Park taking place that day.

The 19th Annual Arts in the Park is Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th. There will be over 50 artisans, continuous on-stage performances, sidewalk chalk drawing contest (Saturday morning), Children's Circle art tent, Lamon House tours, "Art on Wheels" classic car show, and plenty of food! Don't miss a weekend filled with fun and

entertainment!! We hope to sell our 1915 Lincoln Park Pavilion note cards at the Lamon House as we did last time. However, this has not been confirmed as of this writing. The Danville Municipal Band will play at 7:30 pm to close out the festivities.

Please plan to attend this month's meeting. I urge you to lend support and participation to YOUR neighborhood association. Given the considerable size of this association, approximately 200 homes, the meeting attendance is sparse, usually 15-20 people, and most all of those are regular attendees. A viable and dynamic association can only be achieved and sustained through interest and participation. It is important that we expand the attendance to gain a broader exchange of ideas. I do hope to see you at FRIENDLY TOWN, on Thursday, June 21st, 7:00 pm. Remember that all neighbors bordering the Historic District are welcome to attend also.

Best regards,
Brenda Dwiggins
President, LPHDNA
