LPHDNA JUNE 2010 NEWSLETTER

Hi everyone!

Please plan to attend our next meeting on Thursday, June 17th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. The speaker will be our very own Alderman, Michael Puhr, who is the Democratic candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives 104th Legislative District.

Minutes of the May meeting are on the back of this page.

The same slate of officers were re-elected last month as the year before. Thanks to Sue Jones, Dona Farnsworth and Rick Thompson, Board of Directors, Joyce Melton, Vice President, Nancy Bates, Secretary and Ellen Vanesse, Treasurer, for once again accepting these positions. And, of course, many thanks go to the Block Captains for all of their help.

I received an invitation from the Pat Bliss Family inviting everyone in the neighborhood to attend a memorial service celebrating the life of Patricia A. Bliss on Friday, June 18th at 7:00 pm. The memorial will take place in the garden at 1104 Grant St. Please join family and friends to share your memories of this remarkable woman.

No new information is available on the installation of the Coach lights at the north entrance to Lincoln Park.

The yard sale is set for Saturday, June 12; rain date June 19th. Susan Barnes is the coordinator. Please let her know if you'll be participating. She can be reached at 443-5466 or smbarnes2@comcast.net>. Get those closets and garages cleaned out and have fun bringing in some cash! Cathy Johnson has placed an ad in the "Yard Sale" section of the Commercial-News.

Arts in the Park will be Saturday and Sunday, June 26th and 27th. Come and enjoy the arts and crafts, music, entertainment, food and meeting up with old friends and maybe making some new ones.

The Lincoln Park Theatre Company will perform "The Sound of Music" on July 16, 17 and 18 at Lincoln Park. More info later.

"Make It Bloom" nominations are due by 5:00 pm on June 20th. You're invited to nominate as many yards (including your own) or blocks of yards as you want. Entry forms can be picked up at most florists and nurseries, Custard Cup, Charlotte's, the library, CRIS Senior Services and Shick Office Supply.

The door prizes given away at the last meeting were coupons from Fazoli's and Arby's and a $25 gift certificate from O'Leary's. Congratulations to the winners!

The "Making a Difference in the Neighborhood" sign was placed near the east side entrance to the park recognizing the beautification of the park. These trees and flowers were planted on Arbor Day by the City of Danville with the help from the fifth grade class from Garfield School. Additional flowers have been added by the Park's Department since that date.

As you may have read in the paper, due to funding cuts and only having one sponsor (Sunset Funeral Homes) for the 4th of July concert, the Municipal Band will only be performing half of the usual Sunday evening concerts this summer. They will begin at 7:00 pm instead of 7:30 pm. The dates of the concert are June 20th and 27th and July 4th and 25thth. The date of the Christmas concert will be announced at a later date.

Harold Melton won the 50/50 raffle. Thanks, Harold, for donating your winnings to the Association. Thanks Harold!
