JULY 2006 NEWSLETTER
Hi Everyone!
I trust you had a good 4th and enjoyed celebrating the independence of our great country. The fireworks displays around town (and the lake) were terrific! A lot of effort went into the planning and execution of these events. Thanks to everyone who had anything do with any these celebrations. It was obvious that Arts in the Park was a great success. I don't have specific numbers, but thousands participated in the festivities during the gorgeous weekend of June 24th and 25th. Congrats to Larry Weatherford and his staff for putting together an excellent community weekend. Don't forget that on July 14th and 15th, at 8:00 pm, and July 16th, at 6:00 pm, the Lincoln Park Theatre Company's production of the musical "CATS" will take place FREE of charge. Also, please continue to support the Danville Municipal Band at their performances each Sunday evening at 7:30 through August 6th.
Thanks to Robin Miller from Kennekuk Roadrunners for his very enthusiastic presentation at last month's meeting. There is no doubt he enjoys his work with the hundreds of young people and we applaud him. Keep up the good work, Robin! See the minutes of the back of this page for more details of the meeting.
The speaker at this month's meeting is Heather Cunningham from Coldwell Banker Realty. Heather will give us tips on how our property values can be improved.
I recently received word from Steve Lane, Park Superintendent, that the Lincoln Park Pavilion will be temporarily shut down due to needed structural repairs. It definitely will NOT be torn down. Our meetings will take place at the bandstand in July, August and September.
Sales of the 1915 Lincoln Park Pavilion note cards during Arts in the Park were good! Nearly half (1,000 were ordered) of the cards were sold. Sales totaled $548. We could not have done it without the help from the volunteers! Thank you Mike Olson, Cathy Johnson, Dorothy Puhr, Nancy Bates and Joyce Melton. The cards can now be purchased at the Vermilion County Museum, the Danville Convention Center, Two's Company, Queen Ann's Cottage, Lamon House and Images. Many thanks to these businesses for their support by helping with sales. The cards are packaged in sets of ten cards and envelopes for $12. Thanks also to the Commercial News for publishing such a nice article about our neighborhood association and our note card fundraiser. They will also be available at our monthly meetings also. Think ahead! They will make great stocking stuffers for Christmas.
As stated in the flyer distributed earlier this month, the LPHDNA Yard Sale is set for Saturday, July 22nd, 8:00 am; rain date, July 29th. A notice will be in the Commercial-News. Any contributions to the neighborhood association or the Banner Fund from your sales, or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.
The Historic Preservation Commission is still seeking one replacement Commissioner that the ordinance requires be filled with an attorney. Please contact me if you are willing to serve.
Thank you, Dona Farnsworth, for donating your 50/50 raffle winnings to the LPHDNA Banner Fund!
Speaking of the Banner Fund, we currently have enough donations to buy five banners. Our goal is 12. If you'd like to contribute to this fund, please make your check payable to "LPHDNA" with a notation "Banner Fund" and mail it to Ellen Vanesse, LPHDNA Treasurer, 901 W. Center St., Danville IL 61832. These bright blue and white banners will add beauty and distinction to our community during the winter months.
Park clean up day is Saturday, July 15th, 9:00 am. It's especially important that we get the park looking its best since many people will be attending the performance of "CATS"! Meet at the north entrance to the park.
Updates for your Directory are listed on the back of this page.
The success of our neighborhood association in helping to keep our community in high standing is directly related to YOUR SUPPORT. Your voice needs to be heard; your participation is needed and appreciated. Please attend the next meeting on Thursday, July 20 th, at 7:00 pm, at the bandstand. Thank you.

President, LPHDNA
