LPHDNA MEETING NOTICE

FOR

July 19, 2007

Hello everyone!

Vicki Haugen, President and CEO of Vermilion Advantage, gave an excellent presentation at the June meeting on, among other things, the economic development in Danville. Many many thanks to Vicki for sharing her time and expertise with us.

The speaker this month is John Dreher, Neighborhood Development Manager of the Department of Public Development. John will present the plans for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded rehabilitation for the coming year that will be directed to home rehabs in the 900-1200 blocks of Grant Street.

Thanks to Cathy Johnson for weeding the flowerbeds at the north entrance to the park. The Parks Department does not have the manpower to rake the leaves; volunteers are needed.

At the request of neighbors, city officials are aggressively addressing the condition of the property at 1218 Sherman. An update will be given at the meeting.

Congratulations to Larry Weatherford and his staff for another successful Arts in the Park. Weather conditions didn't dampen the spirits of the event! It was well attended. Several new artisans joined familiar ones for an interesting variety of wares.

Due to inclement weather, the LPHDNA note cards were not sold this year at Arts in the Park.

An update on the Danville Area Transportation Study regarding improving conditions for students who walk or bike to Garfield School will be given at this month's meeting.

Volunteers are needed for tutoring children at Garfield School for this upcoming school year. Please contact Mrs. Garner (in August), Principal of Garfield School, at 444-1750, if you are willing to donate an hour or two a week of your time. The school year begins August 22nd.

"The Wizard of Oz" will be presented by the Lincoln Park Theatre Company, at Lincoln Park, at 8:00 pm, on Friday and Saturday, July 13th and 14th, and at 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 15th. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.

Park Cleanup is Saturday, July 28st, 9:00 am, meet at north entrance. Volunteers are needed.

I urge you to lend support and participation to YOUR neighborhood association. A viable and dynamic association can only be achieved and sustained through interest and participation. It is important that we expand the attendance to gain a broader exchange of ideas. The meeting is at FRIENDLY TOWN, on Thursday, July 19th, 7:00 pm.

Minutes from the June meeting are on the back of this page.

Best regards,
Brenda Dwiggins
