LPHDNA JULY 2008 NEWSLETTER

NEXT MEETING - JULY 17, 2008

Hello everyone!

A huge thank you goes to Sergeant John Thompson, Supervisor of the POP Unit of the Danville Police Department, for taking the time to speak at the June meeting. His talk was a real "eye-opener" to those of us who do not have first-hand knowledge of how he and the POP Unit help fight crime. We are very fortunate to have men and women of his caliber protecting the citizens of Danville. (See the Minutes on the reserve side of this page for meeting details.)

This month's guest speaker is Nathan Ingold, newly hired Neighborhood Services Coordinator for the City of Danville. The growing popularity of neighborhood associations called for the city to create this new position. Nathan will talk about his responsibilities and how he will help us a community. Our next meeting is July 17th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town.

The 2008-2009 Association officers are: Board of Directors are Dona Farnsworth and Sue Jones; President Brenda Dwiggins; Vice President Joyce Melton, Secretary Nancy Bates and Treasurer Ellen Vanesse. Thanks, Judy Howell, for volunteering to be Block Captain for the 1200 block of Sheridan and to Dona Farnsworths for taking on additional blocks. As always, my appreciation is extended to all officers and current Block Captains. Without these fine people, we could not have the strong Association we do. I am grateful, too, for the tremendous support received from our two Alderman, Mike Puhr and Jerry Askren.

The Neighborhood Yard Sale is July 19TH from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm (or whenever you choose to stop). Everyone should "set up shop" on your own property (vs all of us taking all of our stuff to one location, such as the Pavilion). An ad will be in the "Commercial-News" along with signs being placed at four high-traffic locations.

Arts in the Park was a huge success! Congratulations to the Weatherfords and their staff for a job well done! An anonymous donor, to help promote Arts in the Park, provided the newly hung handsome Lincoln Banners on Logan Avenue and English Street through a donation. Four more have been sponsored by Danville Township that will be displayed later.

Congratulations to the Zieglers at 1032 N. Logan Avenue for being awarded the "Most Improved Property" designation!

Mark your calendar for The Lincoln Park Theater Company's presentation of "Annie" July 18th - 20th. The performances on the 18th and 19th are at 8:00 pm and on the 20th at 2:00 pm. LPTC wants to help bring awareness to shaken baby syndrome to the community. For every $25 tax-deductible donation, LPTC will give $5 to Reagan's Rescue. Also, Reagan's Rescue bracelets will be sold to benefit the fund.

Final judging of the "Make It Bloom" contest will be July 16-26th. The winners will be announced on August 2nd at 10:00 am at St James United Methodist Church. For all the details, see "cityofdanville.org".

We're still looking for more volunteers to help with the 2009 Garden Walk. Please contact me if you're willing to help.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, and I hope I am, but it appears that two of the ten "Neighborhood Meeting" signs that are posted around the neighborhood the Monday before our meetings have been stolen. Both in April and June, the signs that were placed on Lincoln Park Avenue near the Friendly Town entrance disappeared. If you happen to know the whereabouts of these two signs, PLEASE return them to me (1012 N. Logan Ave). They were not free to us. They were paid for by funds from our Association.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting on July 17th. Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Brenda Dwiggins President, LPHDNA

LINCOLN PARK HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING

JUNE 19, 2008
