LINCOLN PARK PAVILION

6:30 PM POTLUCK; 7:00 PM MEETING

Hello Neighbors!

Please plan to attend our August 18th potluck/meeting in the Lincoln Park Pavilion at 6:30 PM. Please bring a covered dish and your table service. If you can't make the potluck, don't hesitate to join us at 7:00 PM for the meeting only. We are fortunate, once again, to have two well-known speakers at our upcoming meeting. MR. PAUL SERMERSHEIM, DIRECTOR OF PEER COURT GROUP, will give a briefing on Peer Court's structure and objectives. MR. DAVID SCHNELLE, CITY ENGINEER, will update us on the approval for the submission of an application for a grant that will (in part) benefit Lincoln Park. I'm sure you've read about this recently in the newspaper. Please come and hear, firsthand, about Peer Court and also about the possibility of new enhancements to our area. Your questions and comments are welcome.

Our last meeting, on July 21st, covered a myriad of subjects. See details of that meeting in the Minutes on the reverse side of this page. Appreciation is extended to all who took the time to be there. We were most pleased that Vice Mayor and Alderman Mike Puhr and Alderman Jerry Askren were in attendance. Their support is greatly appreciated. Our thanks also go to our two guest speakers, Margie Jordan of the Danville Citizens Police Academy and Jerry Wright, Neighborhood Services Coordinator. Both were most interesting and very informative. Mr. Wright has already begun looking into properties in our neighborhood that need attention.

The storm drain stenciling project is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th, at 10:00 AM (rain date September 10th, 10:00 AM). Your help is needed! It should take about two hours, but with more volunteers, the time can be cut to much less. I'll have all of the supplies and a diagram of where all the drains are located. We'll meet at the north entrance to the park. Please donate a few minutes of your time to help with this worthy cause.

The form for your FREE neighborhood directory is ready for distribution. Your Block Captain will be contacting you soon (if he or she hasn't already done so) to ask for your participation. It will be a very useful tool for all of us to have at our fingertips! The many items that will be included in this directory are listed on the form you'll be receiving. Our goal is 100% participation with completion targeted for October. We are very excited about this project coming to fruition!

Our next LINCOLN PARK CLEAN UP DAY is Saturday, August 20th, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Your help is needed and appreciated. Let's do our part to keep Lincoln Park clean, inviting and beautiful! As an added incentive, we are eligible to win $100 from the City for helping to keep the park clean.

A Block Captain is still needed for the 1200 block of Sheridan. No one has volunteered to represent this block. If you reside elsewhere in the Historic District and are willing to help, please contact me at 431-0092.

The new pedestrian lights that been installed in the park are excellent!!! Not only do they add another safety feature in the park but also add a touch of nostalgia. Thank you City of Danville! The large containers of bright flowers throughout the park are lovely!

The neighborhood rummage sale referenced in the Minutes will take place in the spring due to current conflicting dates/issues.

The Danville Municipal Band closed out its season with a terrific selection of music and judging from the applause and standing ovation, everyone looks forward to next year's season! An added treat was a preview of "Cabaret" which was very well done and most enjoyable.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that "Walking in Lincoln's Footsteps" will take place September 17th and 18th (the same weekend as the Little Vermilion Fall Festival in Ellsworth Park). This program is the brainchild of Larry Weatherford and will bring history to life in Danville. Reservations are required through the Vermilion County Museum Society. For information call 442-2922 or visit their website at www.vermilioncountymuseum.org.

And last, but certainly not least, school begins August 22nd. Be aware of the school busses and help protect the safety of our children as they make their way to and from school.

I hope to see EVERYONE at our get together in the Pavilion on August 18th. We'll have a "50/50" raffle!
