LPHDNA MEETING NOTICE
FOR
August 16, 2007
Hi everyone!
The July meeting had the best attendance of this season! Thanks to those of you who attended. John Dreher, Neighborhood Development Manager, spoke about plans for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded rehabilitation for the coming year that will be directed to home rehabs in the 900-1200 blocks of Grant Street. His presentation was excellent! If you weren't there, you missed a good meeting. As always, thanks John, for the support received from you and your staff and for speaking at our last meeting.
The speaker this month is Jeanie Cooke, Executive Director of the Danville Area Convention and Visitors' Bureau. Jeanie is a dynamic speaker, and I know, after hearing her, you will be glad you attended.
I have brochures from the Danville Police Academy if you are interested in attending their next session from August 30th to October 13th. See minutes on the back of this page for details.
City officials are still aggressively addressing the deplorable condition of the property at 1218 Sherman along with other cited properties in the Historic District. An update will be given at each meeting.
WOW! The Lincoln Park Theatre Company did a super job on the Wizard of Oz!! They were fantastic! They certainly deserved the standing ovation received from the large audiences after each performance.
An update on the Danville Area Transportation Study regarding improving conditions for students who walk or bike to Garfield School will be given at this month's meeting.
Volunteers are needed for tutoring children at Garfield School for this upcoming school year. Please contact Mrs. Garner, Principal of Garfield School, at 444-1750, if you are willing to donate an hour or two a week of your time.
The first regular day of the new school year is Thursday, August 23rd. Please watch out for the children as they go to and from school.
There are 18 packs of our "1915 Pavilion" note cards left. A pack of 10 cards is $12.00. This was a very successful fundraiser. After these 18 are sold, our profit will be approximately $550. Contact me if you're interested in purchasing any. I'll also have them at the meeting. Unless there is renewed interest, there are no plans to reorder at this time.
The Danville Municipal Band had another terrific season of Sunday evening performances. Great job! Their Christmas Concert is at 7:30 pm, December 16th, at St James Methodist Church.
Park Cleanup is Saturday, August 25th, 9:00 am. Meet at the north entrance. Volunteers are needed.
I urge you to lend support and participation to YOUR neighborhood association. A viable and dynamic association can only be achieved and sustained through interest and participation. It is important that we expand the attendance to gain a broader exchange of ideas. The meeting is at FRIENDLY TOWN, on Thursday, August 16th, 7:00 pm.
Best regards,
Brenda Dwiggins
