LPHDNA SEPTEMBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

**** LAST SCHEDULED MEETING OF 2009 ****

Hi everyone!

Those who attended last month's meeting had a special treat of being shown through the house at 913 Grant that is being renovated by students at the Center for Children's Services under the direction of Rick Todd. Rick was our speaker that night and in addition to an interesting talk, we were given a tour of the house. The transformation is amazing! Congratulations to Rick and his team! The minutes of the August meeting are on the back of this page.

The last scheduled meeting of 2009 is Thursday, September 17th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. Our guest speaker is Doug Ahrens, Public Works Director. Doug will talk about upcoming projects being funded with stimulus dollars, yard waste and recycling. The floor will be open for questions.

The "Most Improved Property" sign was awarded this month to John and Carolyn Smith at 1105 Grant. Your place looks great!

A community yard sale will be on Saturday, October 3rd, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. As before, we'll each sell our stuff at our own homes. The more people participating in one area, the better the chances of having more "shoppers." Susan Barnes has offered to be the contact. She'll make a list of the names and addresses of everyone selling. This will ensure that no homes are missed. Please call or email Susan if you're going to take part. Her phone number is 443-5466; email address is smbarnes2@comcast.net. An ad will be placed in the "Commercial-News" and signs will be posted on four major traffic routes.

Census Day is April 1, 2010. You'll receive the questionnaire via US mail in March. Questionnaire responses should represent the household as it exists on this day. Most households will receive the form with only 10 questions. As a friendly reminder, Census volunteers will visit households that do not return the form. By law, the Census Bureau CANNOT share an individual's responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities. I am a member of the Complete Count Committee and will be attending briefings concerning, among other things, the status of the Census count in Vermilion County. Please do your part by completing and returning the form as soon as it arrives in March. EVERYONE needs to be counted. The population count determines representation in the US House of Representatives and distribution of tax dollars. Volunteers will be needed to distribute Census information.

Many thanks go to Alan Woodrum who designed and maintains our website (stated above) and to Sunset Memorial Park for providing copies of our newsletters and various flyers. These services have been free of charge to the Association. Their generosity is appreciated very much!

Park clean up is Saturday, September 26th, 9:00 am. Meet at the north entrance. Bags and picks are provided.

Thanks to all who have attended meetings and contributed in any way in making our neighborhood cleaner, safer, more beautiful. You have proven that "you don't have to move to live in a better neighborhood!" I look forward to seeing all of you on September 17th, 7:00 pm, at Friendly Town. PLEASE ATTEND - YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY NEEDED!

Best regards,

Brenda Dwiggins President, LPHDNA
